Virgo is the sixth sign of the Zodiac. It is ruled
by Mercury, its element is the earth, and its modality is dual. Mercury also rules Gemini, but for Virgo this planet manifests itself in a more introspective way. This is the house where Mercury feels most comfortable being its root sign, and its place of exaltation.

Saravali
Virgo natives have a halo of purity around them. They are always eager to learn because Mercury, the planet related to discernment and intellect, governs this sign. They can be very skilled as a craftsman, as a student of a particular science, in the performance or practice of some musical instrument, and as a writer, among other things. Virgos are naturally curious and self-taught.
Mercury gives Virgo natives the ability to be discerning and to make sound decisions based on facts. They are generally very independent people who like to do things their own way and find it difficult to be pleased with the tasks that others perform. This is because they are perfectionists.
The planet Mercury is debilitated in the 7th house (Pisces) for Virgos. This means that they should not allow others to make important decisions for them. If they do, this could cause future problems or conflicts. Virgos naturally tend to be very independent people.
Virgo is the sixth house in the natural zodiac. Its natives can be inclined towards healing, being therapists, doctors, and nurses.
Living in the mountains is the sign of the Maiden, who, endowed with strength during the day, rises to the front, has medium limbs, two feet, moves south with grain and fire, a Vaishya, clear and transparent, stormy, young, connected with tamas, existing in children and ruled by Mercury.

Virgo is a feminine or negative sign. The word “negative” does not have the connotation of bad, but only describes signs that tend to be introspective rather than extroverted. Virgo natives are naturally introverted, sometimes shy people.
The sign is also tamasic, which means that its actions are based on fixing or solving problems. Mercury makes Virgos very flexible, but a little less than Gemini, the other sign that Mercury rules. Mercury is much more comfortable in Virgo than in any other sign. The element of earth for Virgos makes them more stable, pragmatic, or down-to-earth and reliable.
Venus is the most benefic planet for Virgos, along with Mercury. Venus bestows Virgos with speech that is full of kind words and a tendency toward diplomacy. It also confers upon them a spiritually inclined nature, a love of truth, and a strong desire to be of service to others.
The debilitation point of Venus is in the first house for Virgos. This can cause Virgos to be very critical of themselves and others. It demonstrates the sense of unhappiness that overshadows Virgos when they are selfish with the many gifts that Venus provides.
Venus is the ruler of the 2nd house (Libra) and the 9th house (Taurus). These houses are related to self-esteem and values, and to religiosity or spirituality, respectively. If a Virgo native is excessively sensual and materialistic, as evidenced in a weakened or poorly evolved Venus for the natal chart of some people, they will invariably not find happiness. Instead, they constantly will find themselves in situations where there is no harmony with others and where their values are challenged.
Venus is exalted in Pisces (7th house) for Virgos, which makes them loving partners, capable of great devotion. This is because Venus is the planet of devotion. It gives Virgos a desire for spiritual sharing with their partners and to work together to obtain goods or material possessions.
Malefic planets for Virgo
The word “malefic” does not mean evil, like it does in Western societies. In Vedic Astrology it denotes planets that give life lessons, and those lessons are not always pleasant. They can be hard lessons, full of pain and suffering. But the ultimate goal of these teachings is the evolution of the human soul.
Mars is the most malefic planet for Virgo. It rules Houses 3 (Scorpio) and 8 (Aries) for them. However, the malefic influence of Mars is due mostly to the fact that it rules the 8th house, the sign of Aries. The 8th house is related to transformations, accidents, persistent obstructions, fatal accidents, deaths. All zodiac signs have an 8th house. So these themes are not exclusive to the Virgo native. The influence of Mars can make Virgos argumentative or overly critical.
But Mars has a positive influence as well. It can confer Virgos with great manual capacity for building things. It also gives them the strength and the force of will to make changes in their life when necessary.
Saturn is another malefic planet for Virgo, ruling both the 5th (Capricorn) and 6th (Aquarius) houses. Since it rules the 6th house, it always is considered a good thing when Saturn has a strong in the chart, as it is a signifier of the health for Virgos.
Saturn makes Virgos hard-working individuals, people capable of persevering in their jobs and goals, even in situations that are tedious, repetitive, or in which success requires a long investment of time. This tends to make Virgos good accountants, administrators, and good craftsmen. They also can be good novelists, because they naturally lean toward careers related to writing, calculation, and communication.
The exaltation of Saturn in the 2nd house of Virgo indicates that patience, perseverance and hard work, always will result in them achieving status and the increase of the wealth.
Manglik (or Mangal) dosha in Vedic Astrology
In Classical Vedic Astrology there is a concept known as Manglik (or Mangal) dosha. This concept is related to afflictions that the planet Mars can cause on the harmony that should exist in a marriage. Manglik dosha is considered to be present when Mars is located either in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house, from the Moon’s ascendant sign or the natal ascendant sign. On the surface, it would appear that more than 80% of the world’s population would be affected by Manglik dosha, but this is not the case.
Manglik dosha may exist for ascendant signs in which Mars is a malefic planet. In this way, Manglik dosha would be present for Taurus, Virgo and Scorpio. But Mars also must affect the houses related to the harmony of marriage in an important way.
This means that many Virgo natives will not suffer from Manglik dosha, even when Mars is in one of the houses related to harmony in marriage (houses 2, 4, 8, and 12). This is because, in addition to this position, one of the requirements is that Mars must have an influence on that house for an affliction to occur. By “having an influence” it is meant that it affects the most effective point of that ascendant house. The most effective point (MEP) is that point of the zodiac that coincides with the position of the horizon at the time of your birth, for the specific place on a geographical map where you were born. This narrows the potential effect of Manglik dosha considerably.
Virgo and health in Vedic Astrology
Virgo is associated with the region of the body located around the navel, nervous system, small intestine, upper part of large intestine, appendix, and kidneys.
The planets that contribute to the health of Virgos are Mercury, which rules the ascendant, and Saturn, which rules the 6th house related to health and disease.
When Virgos have health problems, they often are related to Vata-type disorders. For example, a Virgo person can have diseases related to constipation, heartburn due to dry mucous membranes, intestinal problems in general, appendicitis, nervous problems, and skin diseases.
Planets that move more slowly around the Sun (Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu) can cause health problems for Virgos when they transit in Aquarius. In addition, they can cause problems related to disputes and problems in their profession.
During the transit of Mercury, Venus and the Sun in the sign of Aquarius, in the months of February and March, also can cause health-related problems for Virgo.
Virgo and Love in Vedic Astrology
The house of romantic relationships for Virgos is the 7th house, which corresponds to the sign of Pisces. Pisces is ruled by the planet Jupiter, which also rules the 4th house. For this reason, Virgos will look for a noble person in their partner, who will make home life a place full of joy and peace. However, sometimes Virgos have a tendency to set their expectations higher than their partners are able to fulfill, which can make them appear demanding.
The main determinant of a love relationship or marriage for Virgos is the planet Venus. If this is strong, and if there are no afflictions for the houses related to harmony in marriage, Virgos can enjoy a very good relationship.
On the other hand, the planet Venus is debilitated in the Virgo ascendant (first house). This can cause Virgos to be too perfectionist, raising expectations of their partners in an exaggerated way, which can lead to problems in the relationship.
Virgo natives would benefit by developing an understanding that the other zodiac signs, most of the time, do not have the same inclination to focus on the small details in life that they do. Many of the details that they consider essential simply are ignored or overlooked by their partners. But this does not mean that your partner loves you less.
If the natal chart is strong, and the signifiers of the marriage are strong, Virgos should not have problems choosing a romantic partner. In most cases their choice would be correct, due to the natural tendency of Virgos to generally make good decisions.
Career paths of Virgo
The 10th house is related to professions. For Virgo, it is the sign of Gemini, whose ruler also is Mercury. The influence of Mercury or of other planets on houses 10, 1 and 2 determine the professions of Virgo natives.
Because Gemini is not a moolatrikona sign in the Zodiac, that is, it is not the root house of any of the planets, we will take as the main determinant of the profession for Virgos the ruler of the 2nd house, which in this case is a mulatrikon house. This would be the planet Venus. Therefore, Venus is the main determinant of career paths for Virgo.

- Merchant
- Teacher
- Doctor
- Nurse or medical technician
- Therapist or counselor
- Mathematician
- Physicist
- Computer programer
- Accountant
- Novelist or writer

Virgo’s professions can be very diverse, due to the fact that Mercury is the most multifaceted of the planets.
